YOONiquely Me

Hello!

My name is Jung Soo Yoon, and I am a first year student at UCI. While I entered college with sophomore standing, I am still Undecided/Undeclared, much to my family's dismay; however, while fulfilling my GE requirements, I have developed an interest in Sociology and Psychology and may double major in those fields of study, though I remain unsure as to whether PSB or Cog Sci would be more interesting for Psychology.

Having moved numerous times throughout my life, I've developed the habit of watching people more than interacting with them. Moving to a new city, changing schools, leaving behind old friends, having to meet new ones only to leave them in another year or two and repeat the process, it was much easier to watch and to observe friendships and relationships rather than to form many of my own.

As such, it really is no surprise that public speaking and being the focus of my peers' attention truly is not my forte. If you could imagine leaning back on your chair and feeling that momentary panic when it tips a little too far -- yeah, that's essentially what presentations are like for me. I tend to speak way too fast, a little too loud, and am generally embarrassingly awkward -- case in point, my "Intro to Me" presentation the second day of Dr. Haas' Writing 39C course. I don't remember breathing at any point during the presentation...

Though I have generally been fairly successful in previous English/Writing classes, I found that my essays are much stronger and that I am more motivated to argue about a subject if I am passionate about it. Seeing that the theme of this writing course is "Loving Animals," I am hoping my essays turn out well, per my love of animals -- or, specifically, my dog. Though I am unsure what specific issue I would like to argue for or against, I hope to focus my research and arguments on topics regarding dogs.
